The Brief

  • Provide a well designed and sonically excellent sound system, for the multi tiered 180 degree theatre - St George's Hall.

  • Design and install a range of distinctive lighting packages to support a diverse programme of musical performances.

  • Tailor microphone, RF and monitoring systems to meet the specific technical requirements of each artist.

  • Work alongside the BBC’s outside broadcast teams to ensure all broadcast and production requirements were met.

  • Provide technical support and specialist equipment to support touring engineers and visiting production teams.

  • Supply experienced engineers capable of supporting touring acts and facilitating smooth, efficient stage changeovers.

The Challenge

  • Deliver consistent, high-quality sound coverage throughout a 250-year-old theatre featuring multiple seating levels, with significant distance between the stage and the furthest audience positions, for a fully sold-out programme.

  • Accommodate performances involving full orchestras, requiring rapid installation and adjustment of sound and lighting systems while maintaining uninterrupted access to the stage.

  • Support multiple artists and touring parties, each with differing technical requirements, while ensuring all production needs were met seamlessly.

  • Deliver a high standard of technical production within a fixed funding and budget framework, without compromising audio quality, reliability or audience experience.

Our Event Production Solution

  • We designed bespoke sound systems for the different events using our two different line array systems tailored to the theatre’s unique architecture, using detailed modelling and on-site tuning to ensure consistent, high-quality coverage across all seating levels, including the furthest audience positions.

  • A flexible lighting design was developed to accommodate the wide range of performances, allowing rapid reconfiguration between acts while maintaining clear stage access for orchestras and touring productions.

  • Microphone, RF and monitoring systems were carefully specified and managed to support multiple artists and touring parties, ensuring smooth transitions and meeting the technical requirements of each performance.

  • Close coordination between our audio, lighting and stage teams enabled fast installation, efficient changeovers and uninterrupted access to the stage, even during tightly scheduled rehearsals and performances.

  • Working within a fixed funding framework, we optimised equipment selection and crew deployment to deliver a consistently high production standard without compromising reliability, audio quality or audience experience.

  • An experienced technical team oversaw installation, rehearsals and live operation throughout the programme, providing clear communication with visiting engineers and ensuring smooth delivery from load-in through to final performance.
